Presents rare archival footage and excerpts from interviews with individuals who once lived in institutions for people with mental retardation. Individuals relate their experiences of daily life in institutions, and these starkly honest reflections provide a glimpse of the institution from an insider's view. In addition to addressing the realities of the institution, the tape clearly shows the insight, sensitivity and compassion of the individuals who had to endure these settings.

Their struggles and successes form a testimony to the triumph of the indomitable human spirit over adversity and power. This video could be an excellent tool in training, staff development programs and supplementing college level study in rehabilitation, and special education.
