Self-Determination means deciding what to do, doing it and living with the consequences. It is easy to take for granted, become limited or non-existent without realizing it. In meeting individual needs, caregivers may have routines in place not allowing individual decision-making, or focus on what individual’s can’t do rather than what they are capable of and able to do. This program can be used by staff to help people with developmental disabilities in making decisions that affect them.
